There's Good News and There's Bad News…

It’s good news/bad news time already.

I realize some of you are saying it’s awfully early to break out the old BN/GN bromide to cure a headache,  and those who aren’t saying that are grumbling, “What GOOD news?”  But in the current philosophical idiom in sports it is what it is. So… [Read more...]

Suns fans are always fired up when it comes time for their team to do battle with the Spurs. But Shaquille O’Neal decided to heat them up a few more degrees when he lashed out at Spurs Head Coach Gregg Popovich a couple weeks ago on Sports 620 KTAR. [Read more...]

By the Numbers: Phoenix Suns vs San Antonio Spurs

The NBA Championship is not won with just one win.

I knew what I wanted to talk about before the game even started this evening.  If the Suns had lost, my first sentence would have been “The sky is not falling with just one loss.”  Coach Porter, the Suns front office and the players have all said that this team is a work in progress.  The Spurs were missing Manu Ginobili in this game.  And now that Coach Porter’s new schemes are out “in the wild,” opponents will find ways to stop the team’s set plays. Suns President of Basketball Operations and GM Steve Kerr appeared on Sports 620 KTAR’s Doug & Wolf Show this morning to talk hoops with the renown radio duo. Beginning his second season as a front office executive, Kerr commented about his relationship with former head coach of the Arizona Wildcats Lute Olson, as well as the state of the team as they head into the season. All-Star Truck Makes Its Way to Phoenix

(Dan Hilton, Suns.com Photos)

It won’t be long until the sights and sounds of February’s NBA All-Star Game in Phoenix began to make their way into the Valley. In fact, fans attending Thursday night’s hope opener against the New Orleans Hornets will already be treated to a sneak peak of what’s to come.

On Wednesday, the NBA All-Star Truck made its way to the US Airways Center, a location it will call home for numerous home games from now up until February’s extravaganza. The vehicle allows fans to interact in a number of different ways and includes a video game arcade, a state-of-the-art video wall and four baskets ranging in height from seven to 10 feet.

The NBA All-Star Truck will also make stops at other locations throughout Phoenix and should be fairly easy for fans to spot. Once the walls to the truck are opened, the vehicle reaches 20’6” in height, 90’ in length and 65’ in width.

Pre-season is Over; Now for the Real Test

So, the mercifully short pre-season preparation for the regular season is over, and the interminably long regular season preparation for the post-season will officially get underway in San Antonio this Wednesday.

And frankly, I can hardly wait. For the post-season, I mean. I say this because we won’t know for sure until then whether Year One of going back to thinking INSIDE the box after four years of exhilarating – albeit ultimately somewhat unfulfilling – thinking outside the box, will work or not. Suns Work Overtime Against Charlotte

(Barry Gossage/NBAE/Getty Images)

I began writing this blog post about the Suns versus Charlotte game at halftime on Monday night. I thought I was getting a head start on my postgame work but little did I know the game wasn’t even half-over at that point. I’ve heard it said that “Game Seven” are the two most exciting words in sports but the most exciting four words would have to be: “double overtime preseason game”.

Nash sprains ankle in Hawks game

Update:  Head Athletic Trainer Aaron Nelson told Suns.com on Wednesday evening that Steve Nash had “minimal swelling” in his right ankle.  He is expected to be held out of Friday’s game but will be day-to-day after that.

Only being able to listen to the play-by-play on the radio made my mind go a little wild after it first happened.  But luckily, Suns.com and Aaron Nelson were there to alieve all Suns fans’ fears of the worst.

Here’s hoping for a quick recovery! [Read more...]
