Traveling to Spain was awesome, and exhausting all at the same time. For some of the girls, Brittany B, Octavia, Anna, and Karlyn it was their first international flights so they were really excited. The first leg of our trip was a 3.5 hour flight into Atlanta. We had a really short layover and basically just walked off one plane and right onto another, minus losing Karlyn on the tram between terminals (the first of many times Karlyn got separated from the group). Brittany B. was my “plane buddy” on both flights and we played games and watched a lot of movies together on the video screens we had on each seatback. We all tried to sleep as much as possible on the 8 hour flight into Madrid because we wanted to hit the ground running when we landed at 9am Spain time. For those people who may have wondered how the Phoenix Suns would react to their first East Coast road trip of the season, we now know the answer. The Suns demolished the New Jersey Nets on Tuesday night with a final score of 114-86.
The team seemed to play a nearly perfect game last night. They shot 63.2% from the field, 66.7% from three-point land, out-rebounded the Nets by 5 (grabbing 53.3% of the total rebounds), nearly doubling up New Jersey on assists and more than doubling them in blocks. After playing so well in training camp and in the preseason, Suns swingman Alando Tucker had his momentum put on pause when he was forced to sit out the first three games of the regular season with injured hamstrings. With the pain trickling down from his hamstrings to the back of his knee, team doctor Thomas Carter decided to take a closer glance at Tucker’s left knee. [Read more...]
The box score pretty much tells the story, not only of this workmanlike W, but of just where the Suns are at this early stage in their reshaping.
What the raw numbers show is that the Suns’ starters accounted for 93 of the team’s 107 points and pretty much dominated when they were out there. And in turn this tells us that the strong bench Terry Porter has vowed to build is still pretty much on the drawing board. [Read more...]
