While it’s been roughly 6,000 years since France’s Chaîne des Puys volcano range has last erupted, French swingman Mickael Pietrus has been much more efficient.
Two games into his Suns career, the Les Abymes, Guadeloupe, native (who’s averaged 8.7 ppg over his seven years in the NBA) came off the bench to score a game-high 25 points in Sunday’s loss to the Clippers – just three points shy of tying his career best set against Phoenix back in 2005.
“The only way it could have gone better was with a win,” Pietrus said. “It’s a learning process for everybody, myself included. Vince (Carter), Marcin (Gortat) and myself are all learning how the team is playing offensively and defensively. When I have guys like Steve Nash and Grant Hill on the floor, it makes it easier for me.”
Going a season-best 9-of-14 from the field in 27 minutes, Sunday’s scoring outburst came just 72 hours after the NBA veteran’s two-point showing in his Suns debut vs. the Heat.
“It’s hard to pick up all the plays,” Pietrus added. “Every team has 152 of them. Right now, I’m at No. 3, so I have a long way to go. I’m a professional, so I’ll keep studying and hopefully I’ll feel more comfortable by next week.
“I want to face every challenge. I play for my team, so I want to win as hard as they do. Work hard and good things will happen.”
