To hijack the immortal words of The Outfield’s classic 80′s hit: “The Suns went on a vacation far away/Come around and talk it over.” So we wanted to relive some of the best moments from the recent five-game road trip and spotlight our favorite photos, quotes and performances.
Player of the Trip
This is a tough category to judge. Do we go based only on the boxscore? If so, then Jason Richardson gets the nod because his 19.8 points per game average just edges out Amar’e Stoudemire’s 19.4.
Or do we go with the X-factor, Captain Intangible, Jared Dudley who’s fourth quarter heroics in Philadelphia merely brought to light his consistent play – even if he doesn’t shine on the stat sheet. After the big win in Boston, Coach Gentry said of Dudley, “I’ll tell you, that guy is a coach’s dream. He’s a coach’s dream. We never even, I don’t even know what he did, because we never look at the stat sheet with him. But he always comes up with a big defensive play, with a big steal.”
But in the end we had to go with the man of amazing performances. Steve Nash started the trip with a 30-point night in Miami and his 16-point, 12-assist effort in Boston was the first of three-straight double-doubles that he capped off with a 21-point, 20-assist performance in Philadelphia. For a closer look at his 20 dimes, check out this video.
Quote of the Trip
“It’s amazing. He just keeps on coming. It just appeared that he was getting stronger as the game went on. It’s extremely difficult when they get the lead and the ball is in his hands. He makes all the right plays.” – Miami Heat Head Coach Erik Spoelstra on Steve Nash
