Shaquille O’Neal is not used to looking up to anyone, literally or figuratively. But that all changed when the 7-1 Suns center took time out to play host to Brenden Adams this past season.

You see, although Adams is just 12 years-old, he stands at 7-foot-4-inches tall. Adams’ dream, which was to meet the Suns’ big man, came true when the Oprah Winfrey Show arranged a meeting between the two vertically blessed individuals.

Shaq invited Adams and his mother to attend a home game against the Indiana Pacers this past season. After giving the youngster a sneak peek at the Suns’ locker room, Shaq gave him a pair of his signature sneakers and a little pep talk.

“I just want you to do one thing for me,” Shaq said to him. “Stay positive, follow your dreams and just be happy brother. You’re tall for a reason and trust me… girls like tall guys.”

After the game, O’Neal took Adams for ride in his patented “Shaqmobile” truck, garnering the attention of other motorists who honked at him.

“The girls are honking at you,” Shaq said to his new friend. “They know I’m with Brenden.”

Shaq then took the 7-4 youngster to dinner at Donovan’s and then brought him to his personal tailor, Mr. Cooper. At the tailor’s, Shaq furnished Adams with some new clothes for his extra-long frame, finally finding the young fella some clothes that fit.

Shaq just had one rule: “No flower shirts for Brenden!”

For Adams, it was an experience that he’ll cherish for a lifetime. And for his part, Shaq let him know that he undergwent many of the same struggles as an exceptionally tall kid.

“Everything you’ve been through, I’ve been through brother,” Shaq said. “The aches and the pains, kids picking on me, so I know how you feel. So that’s why I can tell you to be proud, have fun and just be yourself.”
