Known throughout Arizona for its first-class Thoroughbred racing, Turf Paradise is celebrating its 56th Anniversary on Saturday, January 14, and is inviting Suns fans to attend.
Besides drink specials, free cake, a family fun park, live music and numerous horse races, the venue is giving away duffle bags to the first 3,000 fans to show up.
The anniversary party coincides with the annual Cotton Mile, a horse race that’s held annually to remember legendary Suns Head Coach Cotton Fitzsimmons, who passed away in 2004. When Fitzsimmons retired from the NBA, he was sixth among coaches on the all-time win list.
The race is often attended by many former Suns stars that played for Fitzsimmons, including Tom Chambers, Connie Hawkins and Eddie Johnson. Fitzsimmons was a renowned horse racing fan, in addition to being a two-time NBA Coach of the Year and member of the Suns Ring of Honor.
For fans wishing to attend the anniversary festivities and watch the Cotton Mile, free grandstand admission is being offered to anyone that brings in a ticket stub from a Suns game.
Turf Paradise is located at 1501 West Bell Road in Phoenix, AZ 85023-3496.
