Sometimes life comes full circle.

As kids we all worship certain people. Whether it be professional athletes, actors, writers, business leaders or reality television stars — a category newly added to the list for reasons beyond me — there are just individuals that we look up to and want to be around.

On a rare occasion you get to meet those people that hold a large influence over you and spend a few minutes in their presence. On an even rarer occasion, you get to actually work with them when you grow up.

Marshall Learning What it Feels Like to be a Sun

It is that time of year again. No, it’s not time to sweat through your clothes thanks to 100+ degree heat. It’s that time when kids across the country are heading back to school and experiencing their first day of class.

Remember those days? Putting on the new clothes and shoes you were given that hopefully were cool enough, that moment you realized you’ve moved up in the world again and getting to see old friends you hadn’t seen in awhile.

There was something magical about that time. Especially how it all made you feel special and excited to be a part of something. Although he’s no longer going to class, Suns rookie guard Kendall Marshall got the opportunity to feel a little bit of that childlike excitement again earlier this week (minus the awkwardness of having to meet the new, slightly strange, teacher). If you know anything about me, which you probably don’t, there are two things I love in life, Batman and the Suns. (Oh, I should probably say my wife as well, so I have a place to sleep tonight.) That’s why, after seeing The Dark Knight Rises for the third time in as many weeks, I decided it was time to compare the two by taking quotes from the film and using them to explain their team’s offseason. All right, no pop star – or is that one hit wonder – will be making a song about rookie point guard Kendall Marshall and what number he’ll decide to wear in the NBA, but it is a question fans have been asking and tweeting about for the better part of two weeks.

Marshall Should Remind You of a Certain Suns Guard

A rumor spread on Twitter Wednesday that it was Back to the Future day. People had the right idea, but the wrong date on the calendar. Thursday, at least in Phoenix, was truly back to the future for your Suns. Before my fellow internet nerds correct me, yes, I realize the actual day that Marty McFly fast forwards to is October 26, 2015, but on June 28, 2012 the Suns took a page from the past while looking toward the future.

That’s because, on that night in New Jersey’s Prudential Center (something that isn’t usually the normal for the NBA Draft), they selected a 6-3 guard who was known for his passing with a mid-first-round draft pick, despite already having an all-time franchise point guard.
