The “greatest of all time” returns to the US Airways Center Wednesday when the Suns take on the Lakers. At least that is my opinion. It’s only appropriate that the emotional reunion is being aired on national television. It may be controversial and people may vehemently disagree with such a bold statement, but the best ever will be back on the court in Phoenix after debuting in the same building during the 1990s. One Hour Before Game: On the court an hour before the game. Dan Majerle, in his Suns warmup t-shirt, was on the court with his son within five feet of former foe Reggie Miller, who was in his shirt and tie for TNT. When I asked him who would win in a 3-point shoot out right now he said “Me, because he’s wearing a long sleeve shirt.” Got to love Thunder’s sense of humor.
Minutes Before Tipoff: Packed crowd and all on their feet for the starting lineups. The song “Work Hard. Play Hard” is in the intro video. Sums up this team and probably most of the people spending their money to be in the building tonight.
11:32: Satisfaction guaranteed? Yeah, that’s a great start with the alley-oop from Beasley to Gortat. Which may be the first and only time that phrase is ever said in the NBA.

It’s episode No. 2 of Suns One-on-One, the official team podcast, and it’s an impromptu edition of the show. While our host Greg Esposito usually will only do one show a week, Shannon Brown’s amazing fourth quarter performance on Wednesday in Charlotte warranted a second show of the week. We talk to Head Coach Alvin Gentry about what it’s like to have a player get that hot, if your ever tempted to give him a breather and if Brown’s performance rivaled Goran Dragic’s third quarter in the 2010 Western Conference Finals against the Spurs. We then catch up with the man of the hour — or is that of the six minute podcast? — Brown. The shooting guard breaks down his performance and shares if he thinks anyone could have out shot him last night.
Ever wonder what Dan Majerle’s biggest joy, biggest regret and most haunting moment as a member of the Suns are? Would you guess that all three are the same?
The Suns assistant coach sat down with ESPN’s Dan Le Batard and his father on Friday’s edition of “Dan Le Batard is Highly Questionable” to answer those exact questions, telling the father-son duo that the 1992-93 season contained all three of those emotions. He explained the season as a whole was the biggest joy of his playing career, and losing to the Chicago Bulls in the Finals was his largest regret that haunts him to this day. [Read more...]
