Dan on Dan

Ever wonder what Dan Majerle’s biggest joy, biggest regret and most haunting moment as a member of the Suns are? Would you guess that all three are the same?

The Suns assistant coach sat down with ESPN’s Dan Le Batard and his father on Friday’s edition of “Dan Le Batard is Highly Questionable” to answer those exact questions, telling the father-son duo that the 1992-93 season contained all three of those emotions. He explained the season as a whole was the biggest joy of his playing career, and losing to the Chicago Bulls in the Finals was his largest regret that haunts him to this day. [Read more...]

Gorilla Included in 'Most Popular Sports Mascots'

Being a professional sports team mascot is, well, monkey business. That’s what makes the Gorilla the perfect man, or is that primate, for the job.

Despite being born for his role in the NBA, one news outlet doesn’t think he’s the best mascot in the league, let alone in all of sports. That source is Forbes, which put out its “Most Popular Sports Mascots” list – as opposed to its “Most Popular Corporate Mascot” list? — on Monday. [Read more...]

NERD Alert: Suns Ranking Rising via Analytics

It’s not only the eye test that the Phoenix Suns are passing right now, after the team has won four of its last five and continued to rise through the Western Conference standings.

The Suns also improved their playoff chances over that stretch according to analytical surveys, as Slamonline.com pointed out in its most recent NERD Rankings. Based off an analytical “platform that uses algorithmic modeling to better understand sports,” – and other such language that barely makes sense – the NERD Rankings place Phoenix as the 19th-best NBA team. Nash And Dudley Up For Award Based on Characters

The NBA has a lot more than 140 characters that play in it but not all of them can show their personality and express themselves in 140 characters or less.

The Phoenix Suns’ roster is full of character guys, but it also just happens to be home to more than a few guys who have mastered the art of the tweet the way Charles Barkley has mastered the art of making jokes at the expense of Ernie Johnson. Whether it’s directly communicating with fans, sharing humorous anecdotes or rooting for one of their favorite soccer clubs — we’re looking at you @SteveNash — they’ve used the new media medium as a platform to connect with people across the globe. (Scott Cunningham/NBAE/Getty Images)

Since the advent of fantasy basketball, everybody believes that they can be a GM. Most fans have visions of a man maniacally working deals on the phone and using a staff of MIT grads to crack stats. So in order to dispel all (most) the myths, Suns President of Basketball Operations and GM Steve Kerr told Suns.com what his days are like. [Read more...]
