Celestially, if you’re going with the “stars,” you have to expect a little “Thunder,” too.
Suns assistant coach Dan Majerle will throw down the clipboard, do his best Superman impression (sorry, Dwight Howard) and rip off the suit and tie to return to action for the McDonald’s NBA All-Star Celebrity Game Friday night.
From center court at Jam Session, “Thunder Dan” will join a stellar list of expected Hollywood stars that includes actors Chris Tucker, James Denton (“Desperate Housewives”), Donald Faison (“Scrubs”), Zachary Levi (“Chuck”) and Michael Rapaport (“Prison Break”), as well as defending celebrity MVP and NFL wide receiver Terrell Owens.
Obviously, it’ll be a busy weekend for the Suns Ring of Honor great. But he’s used to them. During 1995’s All-Star festivities, Majerle split his time between competing in the three-point shootout and starting in the midseason exhibition. This go-around, the former NBA swingman will again be pulling double-duty, joining Suns guard Leandro Barbosa and Mercury center Tangela Smith in Saturday night’s Shooting Stars event 24 hours later.
As for fellow NBA representation in Friday’s celebrity game, look for appearances by NBA legends Clyde Drexler and Dominique Wilkins, three-time NBA champ Rick Fox, WNBA stars Lisa Leslie and Kara Lawson, while NBA Hall of Famers Magic Johnson and Julius Erving face off as rival coaches.
Locally, catch all the action on ESPN at 5 p.m. this Friday.
